Indian Railways will soon start five Amrit Bharat trains from Mumbai. Four of these will depart from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) while one will run from Bandra Terminus. This train will connect Mumbai with major destinations like Samastipur Junction, Varanasi, Sitamarhi, Bhagalpur and Gorakhpur.
According to the Railway Board's letter, the running of these Amrit Bharat trains is part of a wider initiative to enhance connectivity on 26 routes across the country. "All concerned zonal railways have been instructed to prepare timetables for these services by November 16, 2024," an official said, adding that these trains will be in service (operational) by March 2025.
The initiative aims to significantly improve connectivity with major states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha as well as major metropolitan areas, an official said. The Amrit Bharat train will have 12 sleeper coaches and eight general coaches, with facilities for disabled passengers, with a total seating capacity of 1,834 passengers.
Equipped with modern facilities like CCTV cameras, ramps for disabled access, folding snack tables and separate toilets for disabled persons, these trains will run at a speed of 130 kmph. Officials expect that the introduction of Amrit Bharat trains will ease the heavy demand on existing services. Commuters will have more options, especially during peak hours.
