A large number of vehicles were plying on the northbound route on Tuesday after the second tunnel of the Mumbai Coastal Road opened on Monday. As many as 13 thousand vehicles traveled on this route till 6 pm. At present, this route is open for vehicles from 7 am to 11 pm and the number of vehicles has increased gradually.
The second underground tunnel of the Mumbai Coastal Road (South) project of Dharmaveer, Swarajrakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, an ambitious project of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), starting from Marine Drive, was launched on Monday. So the vehicles going from South Mumbai towards North Mumbai got a big relief.

About 6.25 km long road has been opened for northbound travel between Marine Drive and Haji Ali. On the very first day, a large number of motorists chose to travel on this route. Vehicles started plying on this route from 7 am on Tuesday. The number of vehicles was increasing every hour. In the evening, the number of vehicles going north was more. 13 thousand vehicles ran on this route till 6 pm.
The concerned department of the BMC has currently appointed a marshal on this route. The marshal team is working to count the number of vehicles running on this route. The municipality officials said that soon a mechanical vehicle counting system will be installed on this route.
