To reduce queues at booking counters, the Mumbai division of Western Railway (WR) has announced plans to procure 126 new Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) in the current financial year. The Mumbai division currently operates 344 ATVMs at 37 suburban and four non-suburban stations.
"A total of 117 ATVMs have completed their codal life. They are being replaced with brand new ATVMs. The process of replacement is underway and new ATVMs have already been installed at many stations," a Western Railway spokesperson said.

"The Mumbai division is planning to procure 126 more new ATVMs in the coming financial year (2025-26) to further strengthen the existing ticketing infrastructure. This initiative will significantly improve passenger amenities and simplify the ticketing process. This will make travel more convenient for all users," the spokesperson said.
Apart from this, the railway authorities have developed two mobile applications to tackle the issue of fake tickets and enhance passenger services. These apps will assist ticket-checking staff in verifying ticket authenticity and addressing passenger grievances.
