As the strike by Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) entered 50th day, the stir-hit transport on Tuesday, December 14, issued notices to 230 employees asking them why their services should not be terminated.
This comes a day after the deadline given by transport minister Anil Parab. The MSRTC has started issuing show cause notices before dismissal to striking staffers who did not resume work by Monday or face consequences even after a warning by the minister.
"The employees are expected to reply within 7 days after sending the notice. If the employees fail to respond to the notices, they will be fired," he added.
Officials said that so far 21,644 of the 67,904 employees of MSRTC have joined work. A total of 122 depots are now functional while 128 are not.
Moreover, till 6 pm on Tuesday, the MSRTC operated 2,500 bus services. Now, the passenger count has increased as well.
Till Monday, December 14, only 339 suspended workers had reported to work.
While the state government has approved a salary hike and also promised to look into several of the striking workers' demands, it has refused to consider a merger. Therefore, the staffers continued to hike to fulfil their demands.
The staffers of the undertaking have been on strike since October 28 demanding its merger with the state government, with the stir intensifying on November 9 after bus services from its 250 depots got paralysed.
