Time has come when passengers sitting at window seat inside the local train will not have a view of unauthorized shanties across the railway tracks. Redevelopment of shanties is approved by Slum Rehabilitation Authority and Railways.

The shanties are posing the problem in the developmental plans of railways. The land under railway is been captured illegally by mafias and it’s a tough ask for the railway to uproot all those miscreants. The decision was taken in the meeting held on Tuesday. Present at the meeting were Suresh Prabhu, Union Railway Minister, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Ravindra Waikar, State home Minister.

On the 80 hectare land of railways, there are around 12 lakh shanties. The area can be classified into two parts wherein shanties are stretched across the 37.25-hectare land in central railway and 41 hectares in Western Railway.
