As the world is still plagued by the coronavirus, the citizens were not able to visit Konkan last year during Ganeshotsav.
This year, the Railways have informed that the reservation of trains going to Konkan during Ganeshotsav is already full. Moreover, the reservation for the return journey has also been filled. However, there are some empty seats in AC two and three-tiers.
The Ganapati festival will be celebrated on September 10 this year. People living in the city visit their respective homes during this time to spend time with their families.
The people of Mumbai celebrated the Ganeshotsav in a low-key manner amidst the outbreak of the coronavirus last year. In view of the pandemic, the mandals were asked to limit the size of the idols to four feet and domestic Ganesha to two feet. Moreover, 167 artificial immersion sites were set up in a bid to prevent congestion during the day of immersion. Moreover, the police had appealed to the citizens not to crowd the roads and to observe social distance in view of the pandemic. Also, Coast Guard and Navy boats will also be deployed as a precautionary measure.
Despite the measures undertaken by the Maharashtra government, the number of coronavirus cases witnessed an increase post the low-key celebrations in the state. According to reports, the COVID-19 cases were under control before Ganeshotsav 2020, however, due to the festivities and celebrations, people crowded the market areas, posing a risk for the spread of the virus. Furthermore, the increase could also be because of the congestion in homes, societies and premises.
