A Major Redevelopment Plan Underway at Thane Railway Station

Thane Railway Station, a crucial station in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, is undergoing major redevelopment to cater to the growing needs of the commuters. A report shared recently by the concerned department reveals that the Railway Development Land Authority has prepared a redevelopment plan that involves modernizing the station and providing additional facilities to improve the commuting experience. Below are the key aspects of the plan.

Modern Facilities to be Added

The redevelopment plan for Thane Railway Station includes adding several modern facilities to the station. This includes 17 escalators, 20 lifts, and 3 moving walkways to manage the crowd efficiently. A deck of 55,000 square meters will also be built to provide additional space on the platform. Moreover, multi-storey parking, spacious roof plaza, and special facilities for hawkers will be created.

Helipad for Emergency Medical Services

Officials have informed that Thane plays role an important station between Mumbai and Pune, and it is essential to have adequate medical facilities for passengers. Observing the same, the railway authority plans to construct a helipad on the roof of a commercial building near the station to provide immediate medical treatment to passengers in case of emergencies. The helipad will be used for landing helicopters during emergencies.

Improved East-West Connectivity and Special Arrangements for Hawkers

The redevelopment plan for Thane Railway Station aims to improve east-west connectivity. Thane city is rapidly expanding, and urbanization has taken place on both sides of the station. Therefore, the plan includes provisions to handle future congestion and provide new connectivity options to commuters. Moreover, hawkers who are an integral part of the local train commuting experience will also benefit from the redevelopment. Officials have informed that the plan takes their needs into account basis which special facilities will be provided to registered hawkers, including an identity card to do business within the railway limits.
