The Brihnmumbai Municipl Corportion (BMC) has now increased the fine from INR 1,00 to INR 1000 for burning garbage or waste in the open air. This rule is applicable from April 1 in Mumbai and MMR.

Apart from this, the BMC will deploy the ward level team to check and stop such open burning of waste as well as create awareness.

The move came under the Brihanmumbai Sanitation and Health Bye-Laws, 2006. With the 10-fold increase, the civic body aims to curb air pollution and environmental and health risks.
