The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is implementing various initiative for preventive measures against monsoon diseases.

As monsoon approaches, in a similar effort, the civic administration has said that it has reserved 3,000 beds in its various hospitals for patients with monsoon diseases. While ‘Fever OPDs’ and free diagnostic tests at its neighbourhood clinics are already available, the BMC will this year ensure a team from a civic teaching hospitals is available at the ward level, said officials.

Of 3,000 beds, 30 are reserved in KEM Hospital in Parel, 162 in Sion Hospital, 411 beds in Nair Hospital, Mumbai Central, 107 beds in Cooper Hospital in Juhu and 961 beds in suburban hospitals.

The public health department has decided to adopt a focused approach in hotspot areas with a large number of dengue and malaria patients in Mumbai. In accordance, instructions have been given to conduct timely surveys and implement measures to reduce the patient count in these regions.

In a review meeting held of the mosquito eradication committee, including various governmental and semi-governmental agencies, the recently-appointed BMC Commissioner and Administrator Bhushan Gagrani has instructed all to work together for curbing monsoon diseases.

Additionally, a team of four expert doctors from community medicine in BMC's major hospitals will assist in preventive measures for monsoon diseases in each department.
