Mumbai: 45-Year-Old Man Slips Into Gap Between Train & Platform, Dies

Afzal Fakira Shaikh (45) who was working as an interior designer slipped and fell between the train and the platform while trying to board the Amravati Express at Thane railway station on Monday night, and passed away due to injuries, as per the Government Railway Police (GRP).


He was a resident of Dudh Naka, Kalyan, where he lived with his wife, two daughters and a son. His son is preparing for the staff selection exam conducted by the central government, while his daughter is studying pharmacy. The passengers informed the railway police, who then rushed him to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa, where he was declared brought dead during treatment, a railway police official said.

Sheikh had gone to Vashi for some work. After completing his work, he boarded a local train from Vashi to Thane. Upon reaching Thane, he decided to board the Amravati Express for Nashik. The train arrived at Thane station however, while trying to board the train around 9 pm, he slipped and fell between the platform and the gap between the train.


Archana Dusa, senior police inspector, Thane Government Railway Police, said they found that he had sustained a back injury and succumbed to his injuries. An accidental death has also been registered in this case. After the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family members.
