To ensure that citizens get unadulterated milk, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had undertaken a special campaign to check milk at three entrances of Mumbai on Wednesday morning. Under this campaign, nearly 1 lakh 50 thousand liters of milk coming to Mumbai were inspected. In this, a total of 108 milk samples, including milk packets, bagged milk, and bulk milk from various renowned companies, were taken for analysis. The Food and Drug Administration said that further action will be taken as per the law once the reports of these samples are received.


Cases of milk adulteration are coming to light in Mumbai. Therefore, to prevent the distribution of adulterated milk and the health of citizens from being affected, a special campaign was launched under the guidance of Food and Drug Administration Minister Narhari Jirwal to check milk at three entrances of the city from midnight of April 1 to the early morning of April 2. In this, milk tankers entering the city through three entrances - Mankhurd Check Point, Dahisar Check Point and Airoli Check Point - were inspected.


A total of 1,51,894 liters of milk was checked in 79 vehicles entering the city through all three entrances. A total of 108 samples of milk packets, bagged milk, and loose milk from various renowned companies were taken for analysis. Food and Drug Administration Minister Narahari Jirwal personally participated in the campaign at the Dahisar check point. Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar informed that as soon as the reports of the samples taken for testing are received, action will be taken as per the law against the product with poor quality samples.

Maximum checks at Mankhurd check point

In the campaign conducted at the entrances of Mumbai, 1 lakh 51 thousand 894 liters of milk stock in 79 vehicles was checked. Maximum 51 milk vehicles were checked at Mankhurd check point. A total of 1 lakh 4 thousand 538 liters of milk in these vehicles were checked. At Dahisar check naka, 27 thousand 704 liters of milk in 10 vehicles and 19 thousand 652 liters of milk in 18 vehicles were checked at Airoli check naka.


Action taken with the help of Thane Division

Since the Brihanmumbai Division currently has insufficient manpower, a joint exercise campaign was implemented with the help of officers from the Thane office of Joint Commissioner (Food) of Konkan Division, Shrikant Karkale. Joint Commissioner (Food) of Mumbai Division, Mangesh Mane, informed that such campaigns will be implemented in the future as well with a view to ensuring access to safe and quality food to the public.
