In the first eight months of 2024, Maharashtra witnessed 499 reported cases of corruption. Out of these, 472 were trap cases, 22 involved excessive assets, and five were other corruption-related cases. The data was provided by the Maharashtra Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). 

The majority of trap cases involved personnel from the revenue and land records departments. These were followed by police officers, zilla parishad members, and panchayat samiti members. Class III government officials were involved in most trap cases, with 345 cases reported. Class II officials were involved in 71 cases, Class I officials in 46 cases, and Class IV officials in 28 cases.

A total of 134 cases were filed against officers from the revenue and land records department. Police officers were involved in 88 cases, panchayat samiti members in 42 cases, and zilla parishad members in 32 cases. Additionally, 27 cases were reported against Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd. (MSEDCL) officials and 24 against officials from the education department.

In 186 of the trap cases, the total bribe amount was INR 1.49 crore. The largest bribes were sought by police officers, totalling INR 41.24 lakh. This was followed by officials from the revenue and land records department, who sought INR 21.13 lakh in bribes. Zilla parishad officials sought INR 14.57 lakh, and panchayat samiti members sought INR 9.6 lakh.

The state ACB filed 22 cases involving excessive assets. These cases targeted dishonest public employees and private individuals. The total amount involved in these cases was INR 16.46 crore. Of this, INR 3.72 crore was linked to officials from the department of revenue and land records. 

The municipal corporation, public health, irrigation, and education departments were also involved, with amounts totalling INR 3.45 crore, INR 1.63 crore, and INR 1.39 crore, respectively.
