Stray dogs menace in the city is increasing day by day. Recently, a five-year-old mute girl named Anjali was attacked by not one but a pack of 15 to 20 dogs, in Andheri’s Marol area. When the dogs were busy attacking the girl, a good samaritan Mangesh Shegar jumped in and saved the girl. The girl identified as Anjali is a daughter of a daily wage labourer. Due to her disability, she couldn’t ask for help when she was attacked.
Shegar works as a security guard at a business complex in Marol. On June 3, 2018, he was in his night shift and around 11:00 pm, he came out to take a stroll, where he saw 15-10 dogs attacking someone. At first, he thought, that the dogs were attacking a pup and he ran towards them with a stick. Upon reaching is where he found a girl, unconscious and badly attacked by the canines. Risking his life, Shegar picked up the girl and ran for help.
There were no auto rickshaws at that hour of the night and the girl was in immense pain. After a while, thankfully one auto driver agreed to take the girl to the hospital. At first, Shegar took the girl to Cooper hospital where he was told that they have to shift the girl to KEM Hospital. Both Mangesh Shegar and the auto driver waited there until doctors informed them about her stable health at 5:00 am in the morning.
Andheri police has undertaken the investigation regarding the matter.
