Mumbai Rains: 45-year-old woman drowns in an open drain in Andheri

A 45-year-old woman drowned in an open drain in the MIDC area of Andheri after heavy rains in Mumbai on Wednesday led to severe waterlogging at several places. The incident took place around 9.20 pm near Gate No. 8 of MIDC in Andheri East. The local police and fire brigade were informed and they reached the spot to rescue the woman named Vimal Anil Gaikwad. 


The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials confirmed that the victim was rescued by Mumbai Fire Brigade officials and sent to Cooper Hospital, where she was declared brought dead. The BMC issued a statement saying, "45-year-old woman Vimal Gaikwad drowned in an open drain in the MIDC area of Andheri. She was rescued by Mumbai Fire Brigade and sent to Cooper Hospital, but doctors declared her brought dead".

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy rain in Mumbai and its surrounding districts till 8:30 am on Thursday. Other districts under red alert include Thane, Palghar and Raigad.


Landslide on Mumbra Bypass

A landslide has been reported in the Mumbra bypass area, causing traffic disruption in the city for more than three hours on Wednesday. However, there is no news of any casualty.
