Mumbai's much-awaited rainy season is here and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been getting ready for the monsoons this year.

In a recent development, the BMC has informed that officials have created a new app to ensure the safety of Mumbaikars. The app called the 'Disaster Management MCGM' has been developed to provide information on essential details one would need during an emergency in the rainy season.

By downloading the app and using it the location of a person will be used to track in case of an emergency, and the information will be shared with the control room at the municipality.

The Disaster management MCGM app runs on Android and iOS and is set to provide emergency relief to Mumbaikars when in need. It is available on the Play Store and will contain information about the conditions in the wards, geographical location, emergency contact details, weather forecast, rainfall details, traffic diversion due to waterlogging, train schedules and flight schedules as well.

One can also save mobile numbers of their close relatives and friends under the SOS feature of the app, which they can be used by clicking the button of the feature, where an SMS will be sent to all the mobile numbers thereby informing them about the emergency. Further, the app will also include the list of contact details for hospitals, fire brigade, police stations, control room etc. which is located within the 500-meter radius.
