The Education Department of State has asked Zilla Parishad and other civic bodies to ensure that toilets in government schools are renovated.

There are 66,750 government-aided schools with just 65,103 schools that provide toilets for girls.

According to the State Government, there should be more toilets built and the existing ones should be renovated and well equipped with soap dispenser, dustbins, buckets, mugs, light etc.

Notably, girls drop out of school due to lack of sanitation and existing social stigma after they hit puberty. Even though schools provide toilet facilities, they are not in good condition. With this current regulation, the government aims to decrease dropout rates in girls. 

The order passed by the Education Department also states that out of the amount given to each school (Composite Grant), 10 per cent of it should be used for Swachhata Action Plan. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) schemes will also ensure that hygiene and sanitation at schools is maintained.
