Incessant rains that lashed Maharashtra’s Nashik overnight, propelled the authorities to discharge water from the many dams in that area, stated a report by the PTI. This discharge of water has resulted in the overflow of the river Godavari on Wednesday, claimed officials.
The authorities cautioned the locals residing alongside the river banks since the levels of water may further surge owing to the release from the Gangapur dam. The report states that the water had breached the chest of the Dutondya Maruti which is a tall statue of Lord Hanuman, placed on the river banks.
The majority of the small temples and a roof below which death rites are performed in the Ramkund area have nearly submerged in water. Talukas of Yeola, Nandgaon and Niphad have suffered impair to their crops. The authorities have transferred small stalls and vendors from the Godavari River banks and urged residents near the river to move to someplace safer since the further release of dam water is anticipated. On Wednesday, there is a prediction of further heavy rains and thus, the authorities have urged people to not venture out of their homes unless necessary.
Although heavy rains were seen in the district last night, its intensity curtailed in the morning. Officials stated that talukas like Nandgaon, Sinnar, Baglan, Surgana, Dewla, Nashik, Niphad, Igatpuri, Trimbakeshwar and Malegaon attained incessant rains. Due to this, an official said that the total water stock in dams there arrived at the 89% mark, this caused water to be discharged from many reservoirs.
Authorities added according to the report, that on Wednesday from 6 am in six hours, rains recorded in the various dams include Gangapur dam with 4 mm rain, Kashyapi with 9 mm, Gautami-Godavari with 8 mm, Trimbakeshwar with 20 mm and Amboli with 8 mm.
