The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has increased re-registration fees for vehicles older than 15 years. This hike affects rickshaws, taxis, buses, trucks, and both two-wheelers and four-wheelers across India. Previously, the re-registration fee was INR 8,000, but it has now risen to INR 12,000– INR 18,000.
The Maharashtra State Freight and Passenger Transport Association has strongly opposed the hike, arguing that transporters already bear heavy tax burdens and face poor infrastructure, especially outside major cities. Many rely on older vehicles for their livelihood, and this increase will financially strain them.

The association demands the central government reconsider the hike, warning of nationwide protests and a possible strike if the decision is not revoked. Association president Baba Shinde claims the move benefits vehicle manufacturers by pushing older vehicles toward scrapping.
