A new bridge will soon replace the ageing and unsafe Irla Nullah bridge in Mumbai's Vile Parle area. The current bridge has deteriorated over time. It was declared dangerous and unfit for repair by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in 2022.

The new bridge will be an important part of the Mumbai Coastal Road project. It will help improve traffic flow and boost connectivity in the area. The project is expected to cost INR 10.24 crore. M/s Samruddhi Enterprises has been awarded the contract. The construction work is expected to take 15 months.

The old bridge could not be closed completely after being declared unsafe. It is the only path linking Moragaon and the Juhu Vile Parle Development (JVPD) area. However, short-term fixes were made to keep the bridge operational until a permanent solution could be found.

Construction of the new bridge will begin as soon as the BMC gets a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Traffic Police for a traffic diversion. As per reports, no major traffic issues would happen during the construction phase.

During the construction, one lane will remain open while the work is completed in stages. Traffic may also be diverted to an alternative route near PVR multiplex and Chandan Cinema. The new bridge will have the same width as the Irla Nullah bridge, which spans 22 meters.

The bridge will also serve as a key route for the Mumbai Coastal Road, which includes the Bandra-Versova section. The development of a road near Ritumbara College in JVPD will decrease traffic in the area.

The new bridge will be elevated to help prevent flooding during the monsoon season. It is expected to improve connectivity for residents of Moragaon, Juhu, and nearby areas.
