The much-awaited Metro 3 or Aqua Line was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, October 5. However, regular operations begin from 6.30 am to 10.30 pm from Tuesday, October 8. 

After the inauguration, PM Modi took a ride till Santacruz station and back, during which he interacted with students, beneficiaries of the Maharashtra government’s Ladki Bahin Yojana and labourers involved in constructing the city’s first underground Metro line. He also launched the MetroConnect3 app designed to enhance the travel experience for commuters.

According to Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL), the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) to Aarey Stretch of underground metro is set to open for public from Monday, October 7.

The first metro from JVLR Station and Bandra-Kurla Complex departed at 11 am. The services will continue till 10.30 pm.

The first phase of the 12.34 km long Metro 3 between Aarey Colony and Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) will have 10 stations. 96 services of nine trains will run daily. This service will also be open on Sundays and holidays, starting at 8.30 am.

MMRCL expects the first phase to serve around 4 lakh people per day which will reduce vehicular travel by 6.65 lakh per day. Similarly, it will help reduce fuel consumption by 3.45 lakh liters per day and reduce road traffic by 35%. Once fully operational, the Aqua Line will serve approximately 17 lakh passengers daily with 260 services.

Ticket fare:

The ticket fares for the phase 1 of the Metro 3 will have fares ranging between INR 10-50 depending on the distance. The maximum fare will increase once the second phase between BKC and Cuffe Parade gets operational.

Tickets can be purchased via a dedicated app or at physical counters.
