Toll rates on the Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Expressway, also known as Mumbai-Nagpur expressway will increase from April 1. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has announced that the increase applies to all vehicles, even though the full route is not yet operational.

Currently, the toll ranges from INR 1.73 per kilometre to INR 11.17 per kilometre. After the hike, motorists will have to pay up to 20% more to use the expressway.

The new toll rates will be as follows:

Vehicles travelling from Nagpur to Igatpuri will now have to pay the following tolls:

  • The toll for a light vehicle travelling from Nagpur to Igatpuri will increase from INR 1,080 to INR 1,290.

  • The toll for minibuses and light commercial vehicles will rise from INR 1,745 to INR 2,075.

  • Buses and two-axle trucks will now pay INR 4,355 instead of INR 3,655.

  • For heavy construction machinery, the toll will increase from INR 5,740 to INR 6,830.

  • Three-axle commercial vehicles will pay INR 4,750 instead of INR 3,990.

  • Extra-heavy vehicles will now pay INR 8,315, up from INR 6,980.


A public notice has already been released for the change. The toll increase will remain in effect until March 31, 2028.  Toll collection will continue for 40 years to fund maintenance and loan repayment.

The expressway was first announced in November 2015. Construction began in February 2019.

The expressway has been opened in following phases:

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first 520 km between Nagpur and Shirdi on December 11, 2022.

  • The second phase, from Shirdi to Bharvir (105 km), was opened on May 23, 2023.

  • A 25 km stretch from Bharvir to Igatpuri was made operational on March 4, 2024.

  • The last 76 km leading to Amane, near Bhiwandi, is yet to open.
