Mumbai Rains: Parts of city, Thane will see heavy rains for next 48 hours

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), parts of Mumbai, Thane and Palghar will witness heavy rainfall for next 24 to 48 hours due to the likely formation of a low pressure area over east central Arabian Sea off Maharashtra coast and a western disturbance.

Explaining further, the weather department said that under the influence of this system, the depression will deepen off the southwest of Mumbai by Wednesday afternoon, December 1. However, by Wednesday night, it will develop into a cyclonic storm off the west of Mumbai.

On Thursday, December 2, between dawn to early morning, it will land north of Mumbai with the strength of deep depression or depression. Though, there is no threat of damaging winds because wind speed declines rapidly from just before landing.

In addition, parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai and Thane, will see thunderstorm accompanied with lightning/gusty winds and heavy rain at isolated places till Thursday, December 2. Meanwhile, moderate rains are expected to continue till the weekend.

Apart from these places, they have issued an alert for Pune, Raigad, Nashik, Konkan and districts in Central Maharashtra.

Owing to this, the IMD has issued a fisherman warning as well for the next five days for fishermen along the Maharashtra and Goa coast.

On Monday, November 29, IMD had issued a "yellow" alert in Mumbai from November 30-December 2.
