Mumbai’s dabbawalas to urge voters to cast vote

Mumbai- Do not be surprised if you find a chit in your office tiffin tomorrow reminding you to cast your vote in the upcoming civic elections.

The BMC elections are but ten days away and in order to shake the usually indifferent out of his ennui, the civic administration has enlisted the help of the city's lunch lifeline - the dabbawala network - to ensure that the city turns out in strength to cast its vote.

The dabbawala could be just one of the cogs in the multipronged campaign to create voter awareness in Mumbai, but the initiative is already gaining plaudits. ’Majhe Mat Majhi Takad’ ( My vote, my strength)  has already kicked off, with the dabbawalas placing awareness chits in every tiffin they deliver.

This initiative will be helmed by the Dabbawalla Sanghatna president Bhausaheb Karvande, Ulhas Muke and Sopan More. The campaign starts on 13 February.
