The prices of seats in Mumbai have skyrocketed. Also builders have developed a method of constructing luxury flats in most of the new buildings. Therefore, these houses, which are worth crores, are not within the reach of the common Marathi people. Therefore, the organisation 'Parle Pancham' has once again demanded that Marathi people should get a reservation for buying a house. This organisation has decided to give its letter of demand to all the MLAs in Mumbai of both factions of Shiv Sena and has demanded that the issue should be discussed in the budget session.

The percentage of Marathi in Mumbai is declining and Marathi people cannot afford to buy a house in Mumbai. Also, criticising the strangulation of Marathi people in Mumbai in various ways including denial of houses in buildings to non-vegetarian Marathi people, obstruction of Marathi people by builders, the organisation 'Parle Pancham' in Vile Parle has demanded that Marathi people should have reservation for buying houses. This organisation has been pursuing this issue for the past year. But since there is no movement on the government level, 'Parle Pancham' has once again given a letter.

President of the organisation Sridhar Khanolkar said that the flats worth crores of rupees in the new building are not within the reach of the common Marathi man. Most of the developers are not willing to sell the house citing various reasons as the Marathi people who are financially able to buy such flats prefer non-veg food. Many times Marathi people cannot afford the maintenance cost of a large flat. Due to many such problems Marathi percentage in Mumbai is falling.

This letter has been sent to all MLAs ahead of the session. In this letter, it has been said that a discussion on this issue should be held in the session, if a bill is brought and passed to give reservation to Marathi people in house sale, then the strangulation of Marathi people in Mumbai will be curbed to some extent. The letter also said that we should use our political power to force the government to pass laws for the existence of Marathi people in Mumbai. This letter is signed by the president Sridhar Khanolkar, vice president Baban Nakhti, secretary Tejas Gokhale.

Demands made by the organisation

  • 50% reservation of houses for Marathi people should be kept for one year after the start of booking of houses in the new building. If these houses are not purchased after one year, the builder should be allowed to sell them to anyone. Marathi people who are financially capable will be able to buy a house.

  • 20 percent of flats in every new building should be of small size. That means even a common Marathi person can afford the price and maintenance cost of those flats

  • However, these small flats should be reserved for 100% Marathi people for one year

  • A Marathi man should be given priority in the building built by Mhada
