The people of Konkan had been demanding train services from Borivali to Konkan for many years. Union Commerce Minister MP Piyush Goyal, during the Lok Sabha election campaign, had promised to send trains from Borivali to Konkan for the people of Konkan. On Thursday, August 29, 2024, the inauguration ceremony of Konkan Railway departing from Borivali took place at 12:50 pm.

On this occasion, the first train leaving from Borivali to Konkan was flagged off. On this occasion, in his virtual presence, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav in his speech talked about the provisions made by the Center and allocation of funds for Mumbai Railways. Union Minister Piyush Goyal, as MP from North Mumbai, said that for the first time in 170 years, a train will leave from Borivali to Kokan.
