In another gruesome and heart-wrenching incident, a 20-year-old woman was allegedly raped and murdered in Mumbai's Kurla area on Saturday, November 27, informed the police.

As per officials, the body of victim, which had started decomposing, was found on the 13th floor in the lift room of an unoccupied building in the HDIL compound.

Reports stated that the police have registered a case under sections 376 and 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and a search for the accused is underway.

The post-mortem reports have confirmed sexual assault against the woman. Moreover, the girl had serious head injuries.

“Special teams have been formed to ascertain the identity of the victim. The police are also scanning CCTV footage," DCP Pranay Ashok told ANI.

This came to light after an 18-year-old boy with two of his friends was shooting a video in the building when they spotted the body. The boy instantly called the police and informed them about the body, said police officials.

The identity of the girl has not been ascertained yet. Further investigation is underway in this regard, said police.

Moreover, commenting on the recent reports of rape cases in Mumbai, BJP Mahila Pradesh Vice-President Chitra Wagh sharply criticised the state government.

Taking it to Twitter, Chitra Wagh said that Mumbai is now on the path of Jungle Raj. “Mumbai, once known for the safety of women, is now on the path of 'jungle raj'. Like the potholes of Mumbai, the law and order situation here also seems to have gone to the pits. Why does the government care more about Mumbai's nightlife than women's safety?”
