The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has launched a crackdown on unauthorised water connections in Mumbra and Diva. As part of this campaign, officials disconnected 27 illegal tap connections on Thursday, April 3.
Authorities also registered two cases related to unlawful water tanker filling operations. TMC’s Municipal Water Supply Department shared details of the action on social media. It was reported that, over the last two days, 56 illegal tap connections were cut off.
Additionally, three illegal water tanker filling stations were demolished. Eleven pumps were seized as part of the enforcement drive. Officials have also filed cases against two individuals for water theft.
As per reports, Municipal Commissioner Sourabharao directed the operation. Additional Commissioner Prashant Rode and Municipal Engineer Prashant Sonagra provided assistance. The crackdown will prevent water misuse as summer approaches and demand increases.
The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has also taken action against illegal pipeline connections. On Thursday, officials discovered 65 unauthorised water connections in Kalyan’s Bail Bazaar area. These connections supplied water to buffalo stables. The illegal pipelines were connected by drilling holes into the main water supply line.
A team led by KDMC City Engineer Anita Pardeshi carried out the operation. It was conducted under the supervision of KDMC Chief Dr Indu Rani Jakhar. Authorities are investigating further, and legal action is being pursued against those responsible.
