Veteran theatre and film actor, Tom Alter, sadly passed away in Mumbai on Friday night. With his ongoing battle with skin cancer, the Indian actor of American descent breathed his last breath at his residence.
Tom Alter was taken to Saifee Hospital earlier this month with stage four skin cancer which had relapsed after he was treated for it earlier.
Tom Alter was awarded the Padma Shri by the Indian government in 2008 for his contribution to Indian cinema.
He was born in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand and was the son of American-Christian missionaries of English and Scottish ancestry and lived for years in Mumbai.
His grandparents migrated to India from Ohio, United States.
With fluency in Hindi and Urdu, Tom Alter appeared in over 300 films and contributed at large in Indian cinema.
