From 2019 to 2024, 1,176 newborns died in KEM Hospital. A large number of pregnant women from Mumbai and surrounding areas come for delivery at KEM. Therefore, the death of newborns in such a large number is considered to be a serious matter.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that appropriate preventive measures are being taken to prevent further deaths by investigating the deaths of newborns in all hospitals under the jurisdiction of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The proportion of women coming for delivery is also higher. However, 1 thousand 176 newborns have died in the Neonatal Department in KEM Hospital during the six-year period from 2019 to 2024.
