Mumbai: BMC reserves 14-bed separate ward at Seven Hills Hospital for 'monkeypox'

Not a single monkeypox patient has been found in Mumbai yet. However, considering the number of people coming from abroad, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has reserved a 14-bed ward in the Seven Hills Hospital as a precaution. The BMC has also appealed to the citizens not to panic.


Considering the speed and intensity of monkeypox in some countries of the world, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has issued instructions to all states to take precautions. The Maharashtra government has also issued instructions for 'monkeypox' survey, prevention and control measures. In this background, taking into account the number of citizens coming to Mumbai from abroad, the BMC has started preparing for the prevention and measures of 'Monkeypox'.

Seven Hills Hospital, a specialised hospital for medical treatment of infectious diseases, has started a dedicated ward for 'monkeypox' patients. 14 beds have been reserved in this room. Also, the hospital administration has prepared to increase this number as per the need. If a suspected monkeypox person is found among the passengers coming from different countries, they will be sent to Seven Hills Hospital for isolation and further treatment.


Health information room at the airport

A joint coordination meeting of Airport Health Officer, Immigration Officer, Executive Health Officer was held on 21 August 2024 in connection with 'Monkeypox'. Citizens coming from African countries affected by 'monkeypox' and other passengers are being screened through the airport health officer department. Also, a health information room has been made available at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport through the office of the Airport Health Officer.
