Amid a sudden spike in the monkeypox cases across the nation, it has come to light that ten samples of suspected monkeypox infection were sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune.
However, in a major relief, nine of the total samples have tested negative, a senior health official said on Thursday, July 28. Therefore, so far, no monkeypox cases have been found in the state.
While these samples were sent to the NIV last month, report of one sample is yet to be available.
The state health department is not disclosing the details and locations of suspected patients so that they do not face harassment, official stated.
In order to curtail the spread of monekypox, the Maharashtra government recently directed doctors and health department officials to keep a watch on the patients who have returned from the countries where the outbreak of this viral disease has been reported.
On the same day, earlier, the Central government also issued fresh guidelines for those infected with monkeypox and who have come in close contact with them.
Reports state that India has four cases of Monkeypox so far – three from Kerala and one from Delhi –- a 34-year-old man with no history of foreign travel.
Recently, the World Health Organisation (WHO) had declared monkeypox a global public health emergency of international concern.
