Navi Mumbai: NMMC gets a nod from National Medical Commission to start its own PG medical college

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has received permission to start 'Post Graduate Institute of Medical Science' through the National Medical Commission. Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Kailas Shinde has said that due to this, it will be possible for the Municipal Corporation to provide better quality health services to the citizens and the health services of the Municipal Corporation will be empowered.  

After obtaining the necessary permissions from the state government, Thane Lok Sabha member Naresh Mhaske took a special initiative in this and continuously followed up with the Union Minister of State for Health Prataprao Jadhav and the Union Health Department by correspondence and meeting in person.

As a result of this, the National Medical Science Commission has received permission to start a Post Graduate Institute of Medical Science in Navi Mumbai. According to the said approval, 4 branches namely 'Medicine (3 Seats)', 'Orthopaedics (2 Seats)', 'Gynaecology (8 Seats)' and 'Pediatrics (4 Seats)' are being started in the first phase and soon 'Surgery' branch will also get permission.

All necessary infrastructural facilities have been made available at Vashi and Nerul Public Hospitals of the Municipal Corporation to start the Medical Science Institute. Similarly, the dean, professor, assistant professors and necessary staff have been made available. So the college is going to be started soon in this academic year. In this post graduate medical college (Post Graduate Institute of Medical Science) trained MBBS doctors will come for further higher education and these trained doctors will be used to treat patients in Navi Mumbai Municipal Hospital.

This is an attempt to provide super specialty facilities like medical intensive care, paediatric intensive care, emergency and trauma services in the municipal hospital. Through this, the health department of the Municipal Corporation will be empowered and better quality health facilities will be available to the citizens of Navi Mumbai in the Municipal Hospital.
