According to the civic officers, it was expected that the third wave would have fewer cases than that of the second, and the probability would be below 10,000 since a majority of the people are vaccinated.

The cases were on the rise during the first five days of September, but later it dipped. Hence, officials say that it cannot be termed as the start of the third wave, and another reason it can not be termed as the third wave is that the number of COVID-19 cases has been fluctuating since the beginning of the year. It is also believed that the third wave will reach its peak at a slower pace.

BMC will continue to monitor the situation till October 5 as a majority of people who will be travelling due to Ganeshostav would be back by then. If there is a consistent rise in the cases only then it can be termed the third wave.

BMC will continue to give more emphasis on the number of daily tests.
