In order to create awareness regarding tuberculosis and its early detection, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will be carrying out a door-to-door campaign between November 12 and 24.
During this campaign, over seven lakh people will be screened for tuberculosis from 65 high-risk pockets. Densely-populated areas with huge slum pockets, such as Govandi, Mankhurd, Malwani, Antop Hill, and Kurla will be the campaign’s focus. In the first phase, that was carried out between January-March, 1.71 Cr people were screened.

BMC Executive Health Officer Dr Padmaja Keskar said that the volunteers will look for a history of fever and prolonged cough and suspected patients will be referred to nearby dispensaries for sputum tests, while those in need of X-ray examination will be offered the test for free. Besides civic facilities, the civic body has tie-up with private centres where the suspected people will be able to undergo X-ray examinations.
BMC officials added that 297 teams of health volunteers will be screening 1.6 lakh houses from morning till 4:00 pm.
