The Panvel-Karjat Suburban Corridor is 70% complete and is expected to be finished by December 2025. Work is progressing on bridges, tunnels, and stations. The project is divided into two contract lots, with earthwork and bridge construction moving forward at a steady pace.

So far, 47 bridges and one foot overbridge (FOB) have been completed. Currently, a total of 16 bridges are under construction. The station construction contracts for Panvel, Chikhale, Mohape, Chowk, and Karjat have been awarded. Work at Panvel Station is ongoing, covering the station building, crew quarters, overhead equipment (OHE) depot, and water tanks.

The FOB at the Karjat end is complete. On the Pune expressway Rail Under Bridge (RUB), all four open web girders (OWG) have been installed and painted.

The corridor includes three tunnels, two rail flyovers, 15 road under-bridges, and seven road over-bridges.

The tunnels total 3,164 meters. The Nadhal tunnel is 219 meters long. The Wavarle tunnel is the longest at 2,625 meters long. The Kirawali tunnel is 320 meters long. All three tunnels are complete, and track laying has begun.

Substructure work is underway at the Panvel Rail Flyover, with the deck slab for 81 spans completed. OWG fabrication is in progress at various locations. Six out of eight composite girders have been installed, with one girder already delivered to Panvel.

The Karjat Rail Flyover has seen good progress. Of 164 prestressed concrete (PSC) girders, 146 have been launched. The deck slab for 77 spans is complete. Eighteen of 30 composite girders have been installed.

At the Mohape Road Over Bridge (ROB), the deck slab and composite girder erection are finished. Work on the approach ramp and reinforced earth (RE) wall is ongoing. Girders for the Kirawali ROB have been transported, with installation set for February 2025.

Track linking is advancing on the corridor. At Panvel Yard, a 180-meter track slewing has been implemented to extend platforms. Track linking at Mohape Yard started on November 22, 2024. Ballast formation is complete for 13 kilometres, and 4 kilometres of track have been laid.

Once completed, the new corridor will improve connectivity and reduce travel time. The current old line serves goods and some long-distance passenger trains. The new double-line route will allow local trains to run between Mumbai and Karjat via Panvel.
