The much-anticipated Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections will soon be held in a few months. With the polls and campaigns being planned, the political parties and respective leaders have one again began the game of accusations. The war of words has begun between the members of the ruling and opposition parties in the Municipal Corporation.

In a recently passed comment, Shiv Sena, the ruling party in the municipal corporation, has been criticized by the opposition. But for the first time, Maharashtra State Tourism Minister Aditya Thackeray, who has never commented on these polls, reacted to MNS' allegations in a few words.

MNS general secretary and former corporator Sandeep Deshpande during a press conference held on Thursday, February 4, 2021, criticised the municipal budget and accused Shiv Sena of extortion. Deshpande said that Shiv Sena collects ransom from peddlers by giving regular receipts which have the photos of Shiv Sena chief Balasaheb Thackeray, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray. Furthermore, he also pointed out that the receipt was written to reduce the nuisance of peddlers and for the disposal of waste.

In an earlier tweet, Deshpande had compared the Shiv Sena with the 'Veerappan Gang' by commenting that the authorities from the party have looted more than Veerappan. He said that the party has robbed the corporation and referring to the same, he said that the upcoming BMC elections will have the 'Virappan gang' contesting for the same.

On being asked about this, Aaditya Thackeray said that he is not aware if MNS is a party or an organization, however, it is clear that it is nothing short of a 'timepass gang' where even its own workers do not pay attention to the party, its work and other members. Hence, it is not important for people to pay attention to their words either. This is the first time Aaditya Thackeray has given a rather harsh response and that too in such few words.

He added that this reaction was normal and expected after the MNS office bearers from Dombivali resigned from their party and joining Shiv Sena.

Adding more he said that there is a possibility of such a fight against Shiv Sena at the local level.

Meanwhile, MNS president Raj Thackeray recently directed the members to set up Lok Sabha-wise committees so that the party does not face any further loss in the near future, and his son Amit Thackeray has been given the responsibility of one of the Lok Sabha constituencies.
