After losing the assembly elections in the state, the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray) party has raised the slogan of Ekla Chalo Re for the upcoming municipal elections. Even though the official announcement in this regard has not been announced, the party leaders are saying that if they want to win the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, they should contest the elections alone.

Meanwhile, Sanjay Raut said that Shiv Sena (UBT) has started preparations to win elections in 14 municipalities including Mumbai. Therefore, it has been highlighted that UBT will contest elections independently after breaking away from the Mahavikas Aghadi. Congress leader and former Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Vijay Wadettiwar has criticised Sanjay Raut over this.

What exactly did Sanjay Raut say?

“Let municipal elections be implemented anytime. UBT has started preparations for 14 municipal elections including Mumbai. We will contest the elections with utmost strength. Elections were withheld for three-and-a-half years. There is no mayor, because they are afraid of losing. After being convinced that we won the assembly elections sincerely, they have now started preparing for the municipal elections. But for Marathi people to stay in Mumbai, Mumbai is the capital of Marathi people, we will fight this election with our lives", said Sanjay Raut.

What did Vijay Wadettiwar say?

"Sanjay Raut's body language shows that he is depressed. Perhaps because of this depression, he gave the slogan of Ekla Chalo Re. If he has decided to fight independently, that is his right. As a coalition, we are ready to fight together. But once we get clarity on Sanjay Raut's role, we will take our decision", said Vijay Wadettiwar.

…then we will fight on our own

“Three years ago, the municipal corporation was dissolved. Congress workers have been working for three years. Voters are also eager. Because the problems of ordinary citizens are solved by the Municipal Corporation. If no one is willing, we will contest the elections in Nagpur on our own", Congress leader Vikas Thackeray said.

When is the BMC election?

According to the information received from the office of the State Election Commission, the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the matter of local body elections in the state on January 22.

It will take at least three months to prepare for the election after the Supreme Court takes a decision on the number of members of municipal and other local self-government bodies, how the ward structure should be and the number of members should be decided by the State Election Commission or the State Government. Therefore, there is no possibility of holding elections for Municipal Corporations, Municipal Corporations, Nagar Panchayats, Zilla Parishads and Panchayat Samiti in coming months.
