With senior leaders shifting loyalties ahead of the state assembly polls, the opposition parties in Maharashtra are facing a leadership crisis. After the resignation of senior leader Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil from Congress, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sachin Ahir on Thursday also submitted his resignation and joined Shiv Sena.

Ahir was the Mumbai NCP President while Patil resigned from the post of the leader of the opposition (LoP) in Maharashtra legislative assembly. Earlier, state Youth Congress leader Anand Dubey also joined Shiv Sena. The ongoing speculations in the political circle suggest that several other Congress leaders in Mumbai might join either BJP or Shiv Sena.

According to sources, at least two former MLAs and one MLA from Congress are in touch with BJP and Shiv Sena currently. Moreover, a senior Congress leader in Mumbai is also in touch with the BJP. However, there has been no official information regarding this.
