The Worli Assembly Constituency is considered Shiv Sena's (Thackeray) stronghold. That is why party chief Uddhav Thackeray fielded his son, Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray, in the assembly elections from this constituency in 2019. Aaditya Thackeray also won big in this constituency. However, after the split of Shiv Sena, the influence of Shiv Sena (Thackeray) in this constituency has lowered a bit.
This constituency falls under the South Mumbai constituency of Lok Sabha. In the recently held Lok Sabha elections, it was seen that Shiv Sena's (Thackeray) vote share came down in this constituency. On the other side, Aaditya Thackeray has become cautious as the MNS along with the Mahayuti has started a probe in Worli. So it seems that Aditya Thackeray has focused on his constituency in the last few months.
Ever since Uddhav Thackeray broke the alliance with BJP, the BJP has started trying to disrupt Shiv Sena's (Thackeray) stronghold. BJP has systematically tried to woo the Marathi people by planning different programs in this section. Dahihandi programs, Marathi Dandiya programs were conducted in Jambori maidan in the central part of Worli.
Similarly, after the split in Shiv Sena, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has also started trying to increase his strength in this constituency. Recently, two former corporators from Worli have joined the Shinde group. Arvind Sawant of Shiv Sena (Thackeray) was elected in the South Mumbai Lok Sabha constituency in the recent Lok Sabha elections, but out of the six assembly constituencies in this constituency, he got the least margin of six thousand votes from Worli. This is a big shock for Aaditya and a big challenge is facing him.
Thackeray vs Thackeray in Worli?
Diminished vote margin and changed political equations in Worli Lok Sabha, considered Shiv Sena's stronghold, will be a challenge for Aaditya Thackeray. However, it has not yet been decided which candidate Mahayuti will field in front of Aaditya Thackeray. If the Mahayuti wants to defeat Aaditya Thackeray, it is necessary to field an equal candidate against him. Mahayuti is also considering fielding Amit Thackeray, president of Vidyarthi Sena, a branch of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, against Aaditya Thackeray from this constituency. Amit Thackeray is the son of MNS President Raj Thackeray and is also Aaditya Thackeray's cousin. The Mahayuti had earlier staged a match between Supriya Sule and Sunetra Pawar in Baramati. A similar attempt can also be made in Worli.
It is almost certain that the Thackeray group will get the Worli seat in Mahavikas Aghadi and Aaditya Thackeray will once again enter the election fray from Worli. Meanwhile, it is being said that Shiv Sena (Shinde) is insisting for Worli constituency in Mahayuti.
