Madhura Jasraj, wife of noted writer, director and late classical singer Pandit Jasraj, passed away at her residence on Wednesday morning. She was 86 years old. For the past few months, she was struggling with an illness brought on by old age. Her body will be cremated at the crematorium in Oshiwara on Wednesday around 4.30 pm. She is survived by Chiranjeev Sharang Dev Pandit and daughter actress Durga Jasraj and their families.
Madhura Jasraj was the daughter of renowned film director V. Shantaram. In 1962, she got married to legendary Hindustani classical singer Pandit Jasraj.
Madhura Jasraj herself was a great writer, she also knew the art of film direction. At the age of 73, in 2010, her first film as a director, 'Aai Tujha Aashirwad', was released. Due to this film, she was recorded in the Limca Book of Records as the oldest director who made her debut in the field of film direction.
She had directed the documentary 'Portrait of a Pioneer : V. Shantaram' on her father V. Shantaram. Madhura Jasraj also wrote and edited her father's autobiography, Shantarama.
