Shanghai has overtaken Mumbai as Asia’s top city for billionaires. The Hurun Global Rich List 2025 shows Shanghai has 92 billionaires, while Mumbai has 90. This marks the first time Mumbai has lost its leading position in Asia.

India ranks third in the world with 284 billionaires. Their combined wealth stands at INR 98 lakh crore. This is a slight increase from the previous year. Among them, 175 billionaires saw their wealth grow, while 109 experienced a decline or no change.

The average net worth of Indian billionaires rose by 10% to INR 34,514 crore. Seven billionaires under 40 are from Bengaluru and Mumbai. Two of them are just 34 years old.

The United States holds the highest number of billionaires, with 870. China follows closely with 823 billionaires. This is the first time in ten years that the US has regained the top spot.

Mukesh Ambani has lost his title as the richest person in Asia. Furthermore, Gautam Adani has become the biggest wealth gainer in India, adding INR 1 lakh crore to his fortune. His total net worth has grown by 13% to INR 8.4 lakh crore.

Ambani's wealth has dropped by INR 1 lakh crore from last year, bringing his total to INR 8.6 lakh crore. He is no longer among the world’s top ten richest people. Despite the drop, he remains ahead of Adani.

The global top ten billionaires list is mostly dominated by American tech entrepreneurs. Bernard Arnault, the CEO of LVMH, is the only non-American among them. Elon Musk remains the world’s richest person despite challenges at Tesla.
