Thane: 'This' Organisation is helping prostitutes become entrepreneurs

A social organisation has turned 132 women prostitutes in Mumbai, Thane, Bhiwandi and Navi Mumbai into entrepreneurs by giving them entrepreneurship lessons. Because of this, this organisation has changed the lives of women who have been selling sex for many years.


The state government is implementing various activities for the women who have been involved in sex work for many years to get out of it. Under this concept, under the initiative of 'Utkarsh Micro Business Development Training' of the Thane-based Kshamata Organisation, efforts are being made to provide means of livelihood to the women who do sex work. Since last year, efforts have been made to turn women prostitutes into small entrepreneurs by providing small business training through the joint venture of Savera, Oasis, Salvation Army organisation and Kadiya Sanstha.

These organisations are working in the areas of Kamathipura, Bhandup (Sonapur), Turbhe, Bhiwandi in Mumbai. Bhiwandi is the centre of capacity organisation and work is going on in other centres in collaboration with the rest of the organisations. Since 2022, a total of 132 women have successfully turned to small scale industries, empowering them to live with dignity and not just business, these women are inspiring others as well. Under this initiative, women are trained for four months.

This is a big opportunity for us to grow as a person. The women were thankful to the organisation for providing them the opportunity to come out of prostitution.
