Thane: Two-days special mobility workshop has been organised for visually challenged

Sarathi Resource Center for Visually Impaired Organisation of Rotary Club of Lake City in Thane at Kopri, is organising a two-day residential mobility workshop for visually challenged students and sighted people. This workshop will take place on May 18 and May 19, 2023. This workshop has been designed to enable visually challenged people to overcome the difficulties faced in their daily life and live their lives easily and conveniently. This has been designed by  Mobility Expert &  Braille Man of India, Swagat Thorat. 


So far, 51 mobility workshops have been organised in Pune, Mumbai, Thane, Nashik, Jalgaon, Ahmednagar, Latur, Akola, Amravati, Satara, Kolhapur, Nagpur and Ratnagiri districts of Maharashtra and one at Burhanpur in Madhya Pradesh and have been very useful to hundreds of trainees who participated in them.


“In this workshop, knowledge and use of white stick, practical use of white stick by giving training in scientific method, information and training on how to use other senses competently, and how to identify different substances through tactile sense, will be taught”, said mobility expert Swagat Thorat.   


The workshop will be guided by Swagat Thorat, a mobility expert who has been working for the visually challenged for the last 25 years, while Swarupa Deshpande is the coordinator and assistant trainer of the workshop. Vatsalya Trust of Mumbai has also given special support for this workshop.

The timing of the workshop on these two days will be from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on both days. Accommodation and food will be provided free of charge from May 17 evening till the evening of May 19. Rotary Club of Lake City President Amol Dharme has appealed that visually challenged should not miss the opportunity to participate in this mobility workshop which will bring drastic changes in the personal life of the visually challenged.
