The Navi Mumbai Municipal Administration has once again started the activities of implementing new charging stations in the city. The administration had earlier tried to implement such a policy through the Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport Initiative. However, the NMMT administration has not succeeded in implementing this system adequately. At the same time, the municipal administration has once again started activities to set up such charging stations at 124 places in the city.
A policy for electric vehicles was implemented in the state in 2022. The term of this policy was till 30 March 2025. As per the old policy, 10 per cent of the total vehicles registered in the state by 2025 and 30 per cent by 2030 were expected to be electric vehicles (EVs).
According to the claim of the transport department of the state government, by 2024, nine percent of the vehicles in the state will be running on electricity. In order to increase the purchase of electric vehicles, the need to set up an abundant charging system has been expressed in the past.

In the Mumbai metropolitan region, the need to take initiatives from different local bodies has also been expressed. However, except for a few exceptions, the local bodies in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar districts have not yet succeeded in setting up such charging stations.
After this process implemented by NMMT administration failed, Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailash Shinde has decided to implement a new process for setting up charging stations in the city this year. While giving information in this regard at the anniversary function of the Municipal Corporation, he explained that steps are being taken on a war footing to set up a system of environmentally friendly charging stations in the city.
