On Monday, Maharashtra Environment Minister, Aaditya Thackeray stated that 100% of the BEST’s fleet by 2028 will be electric, stated reports. Whilst speaking at an event at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters, three MOUs concerning the Mumbai Climate Action Plan (MCAP) were signed on Monday. This plan is being curated by the civic authority alongside that state environment ministry and the World Resources Institute (WRI) India that is participating as a technical associate.

Aaditya Thackeray took to Twitter to elaborate that the BEST bus comprises 386 EV buses at present and they are looking at 1900 EV buses and 200 double-decker buses, whilst changing 50% of its fleet to electric by 2023 with the number increasing to 100% by 2028. WRI and GiZ will help them optimize a seamless change for the customers and last-mile association for BEST.

In addition to this, the MOUs signed comprised Women for Climate, e-Bus Mission and Cities for Forests Campaign.

The e-Bus Mission is a deal in the Transformative Urban Mobility Initiative (TUMI) to enhance BEST buses. In it, foremost resources will be offered alongside technical assistance by WRI. The civic authority elucidated that the number of electric buses is consistently augmenting. This with the experience of WRI, an international organization will be important in offering technical help to the BEST administration in preparing for infrastructure, performance assessment, civic policy planning alongside ancillary problems for charging BEST buses.

This will offer seamless technical direction for BEST to change from regular to electric buses since it will propel nearly five small towns to embrace the future of electric buses.
