Central Railway (CR) has announced the setting up of dedicated kiosks known as a “Covid-19 Preventive Kiosk” across railway stations in the city. These vending machines will consist of triple-ply masks, hand sanitizers as well as gloves at a small cost.
It is said that these kiosks will be set up across Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT), and Dadar station.
CR spokesperson Anil Kumar Jain said - “This is in addition to the health ATMs planned at several suburban stations. Mumbai division also plans to provide a sanitizing facility for luggage.” Jain added that this would be suitable given that each passenger travelling via trains is expected to wear masks or protective face coverings at all times.

Mumbai’s local trains opened briefly in mid-June, though its use is now permitted only to essential employees and some government employees pending use of masks at all times.
Wearing of masks or cloth coverings has shown some evidence of curbing the spread of the coronavirus, making this an important step in reopening the economy. At the moment, Mumbai is struggling to keep COVID-19 under control.
Though some areas showed an improvement, the authorities have decided to extend lockdown in Kalyan-Dombivli’s hotspots until July 31. The lockdown ended in non-hotspot areas of the region on July 19.
The police and authorities in Mumbai also have to contend with lockdown violators that flock the streets on a regular basis. Maharashtra Police data shows that more than 91,000 vehicles have been seized in the state.
