The Ahmedabad-Mumbai Tejas Express, which was temporarily cancelled due to poor response from passengers, will resume service from February 14.
Moreover, this train is touted to run four days a week. Amidst the pandemic and the subsequent lockdown in Mumbai, long-distance trains were shut down. Initially, only for essential workers, special trains were introduced. As soon as the lockdown was relaxed, the Ahmedabad to Mumbai to Ahmedabad Tejas Express was launched from October 17. Moreover, except Thursday, the train is to remain in passenger service for the remaining six days.
However, despite full security precautions, only 25 to 40 per cent of Tejas Express tickets were being booked daily. The IRCTC also had to bear huge losses. Therefore, this express was temporarily cancelled from November 24, 2020.
Meanwhile, with the decline in the number of COVID-19 infections, the number of people travelling by mail-express is also increasing due to which the Indian Railway Catering Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has decided to re-launch the Tejas Express from February 14.
Moreover, train No. 82901 and 82902 Tejas Express will run on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The IRCTC has informed that its reservation has been initiated. The train will stop at Nadiad, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Vapi, Borivali and Andheri stations between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
On the other hand, in recent developments, on January 29, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced that the general public will be allowed to commute in the local trains during non-peak hours from February 1, 2021. According to sources, travel for the general public will be allowed till 7 am from the start of the first local train. Later, from 12 pm to 4 pm in the afternoon and then at 9 pm in the night.
