According to the latest report released by the state Health Department, 10 new cases of Delta Plus variant of coronavirus have been detected in Maharashtra. With this addition, the total count has now reached 76.

Of the total cases, six were found in Kolhapur, three in Ratnagiri and one in Sindhudurg.

The death toll due to the delta plus variant has been stagnant to five patients, including one in Mumbai, the state health department said.

Moreover, it has been observed that three sub-lineages of the Delta-plus variant of the COVID-19 are currently circulating in the state

The genome sequencing reports of these patients have revealed the presence of three new strains -- Ay.1, Ay.2 and Ay.3 -- in over 60 patients.

Meanwhile, it has come to light that scientists have found 13 more sub-lineages of the Delta-plus stain starting from Ay.1, Ay.2, Ay.3 till 13. Of which, the first three sub-lineages have been found so far in Maharashtra. 

Reports suggest that of 12,000 samples sequenced from Maharashtra, 8,089 were positive for Delta. 

In Maharashtra, the delta was found in one sample in December, eight in February, 185 in March, 1,737 in April, 3,547 in May, 1,551 in June and 1,060 in July. 

Besides, in Mumbai, there were a total of 11 cases reported as of August 13. Of which, a 63-year-old woman died recently. In addition, it was reported that from the deceased’s family, two were found with Delta-plus.
