Two children died after drowning in a lake in Virar on Thursday evening. Locals have succeeded in saving one. The incident took place in a lake in Gaspada area near Papadkhind Dam. The deceased have been identified as Vivek Munlapuri (10) and Manish Sutar (11).  Both are residents of Prathamesh Nagar, Hindustan Times reported.


According to the Virar police, the three children had gone for a swim in the lake in the afternoon. But they did not know that it was very deep. As soon as they got into the water, they had to struggle to stay afloat. Hearing the screams, the locals rushed to the spot. They managed to save a boy and brought him to safety in time. But Vivek and Manish could not be saved. A search operation was then launched. After a search operation, 2 bodies were recovered

Recently, a three-year-old boy drowned after falling into a water tank in a residential society on Ghodbunder Road in Thane. According to news agency PTI, the incident took place on February 11 when the boy had gone to a relative's house with his mother while playing in the society's premises.


Police officials said the boy slipped into the water tank while playing. When his family couldn't find him, they began searching the entire area.


The family immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead. The boy's body has been sent for post-mortem to find out the exact cause of death. The Kasarwadvali police have registered an accidental death and are further investigating the incident.
