The stay from the court has, for the time being, stopped the BMC authorities from taking action against licensed vendors on the Fashion Street. The next hearing in this case is scheduled on Friday and the future course of action will be decided only after Friday.
The civic authorities had cancelled the licenses of 49 hawkers after it received complaints about encroachment by 394 licensed vendors at Fashion Street. The BMC had earlier warned them of action. After inspection of the encroachments, the civic authorities cancelled licenses of 49 vendors. All of them were given notices to remove their belongings in 24 hours.
These 49 vendors immediately approach the court on Tuesday and succeeded in getting a stay on civic action. The BMC lawyers informed the court on Wednesday that hawkers misled the court to get the stay. The court has decided to hear the case further on Friday, said Kiran Dighawkar, assistant municipal commissioner of ‘A’ ward.
The future course of action will be decided after court’s decision in this regard, he added.
